LayerCost Terms of Service
Last updated: [TO COMPLETE: publication date]
These Terms govern your use of LayerCost ("the App"), a Shopify app provided by [TO COMPLETE: legal name of the operator] ("we", "us"). By installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the App on behalf of a business, you confirm that you can bind that business.
1. The service
LayerCost records FIFO and weighted average cost (WAC) layers for your store's inventory from the date you install it, takes a daily snapshot of inventory value, and generates reports (value at a date, year-end inventory, and cost of goods sold by month on the Pro plan) in CSV and PDF. The App reads data from your Shopify store and never changes your products, costs, inventory or orders.
2. Important limitations
- No history before install. Values are calculated only from data recorded since the App was installed. It does not rebuild inventory or costs from before that date.
- Depends on your Shopify data. Results depend on the cost per item, inventory quantities, orders and refunds in your store. A variant without a cost is valued at zero. Stock the App detects without a known purchase is added at the current cost per item and marked for your review.
- Not tax or accounting advice. Every report says: "Values are calculated from data recorded since LayerCost was installed on <date>. This is not tax or accounting advice." You and your accountant are responsible for how you use the reports.
- Single currency. Reports use your store currency.
3. Plans, trials and billing
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Free | USD 0 | Up to 100 variants; FIFO and WAC; current inventory value and value at a date; no year-end report; no cost of goods sold by month; daily snapshots kept for 30 days |
| Starter | USD 9.99/month or USD 99/year | Up to 5,000 variants; Everything in Free; year-end inventory report in PDF and CSV; daily snapshots kept for 24 months |
| Pro | USD 24.99/month or USD 249/year | Up to 50,000 variants; Everything in Starter; cost of goods sold by month; unlimited snapshot history |
- Paid plans include a 7-day free trial, once per store. If you subscribe again or change plans, only the remaining trial days apply.
- All charges are billed by Shopify through its billing system and appear on your Shopify invoice. We do not bill you outside Shopify. You approve every new charge in Shopify.
- You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time from the App's plan page.
- If you cancel a paid plan, you keep it until the end of the billing period you already paid for, and then move to the Free plan. If you cancel during the free trial, you move to the Free plan immediately. Unused time is not prorated.
- If your store exceeds your plan's variant limit, the App keeps working in read-only mode until you upgrade or reduce tracked variants.
- After a downgrade, snapshots older than your new plan's retention are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
- Refunds: [TO COMPLETE: refund policy]
- Taxes are calculated and collected by Shopify where applicable.
- We may change prices with at least [TO COMPLETE: price change notice in days (draft proposes 30)] days' notice. A price change applies from your next billing cycle and requires your approval through Shopify.
4. Your responsibilities
You must keep a valid Shopify store and comply with Shopify's terms. You must not misuse the App, try to access other stores' data, reverse engineer it, or overload it. You are responsible for the accuracy of the costs you enter or edit in the App.
5. Data
Our Privacy Policy describes how we handle data. We do not store personal information about your customers. When you uninstall, data processing stops immediately, and your store's data is deleted after Shopify's deletion request, which arrives 48 hours after uninstall. Export any reports you need before uninstalling.
6. Availability and support
We aim for the App to be available 99% of the time, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. If a daily snapshot fails, it is retried automatically. Support: [TO COMPLETE: support email]. We aim to reply within 48 business hours.
7. Intellectual property
We own the App and its software. You own your store data and the reports you export. You grant us a limited license to process your store data only to provide the App.
8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost profits, tax assessments or penalties arising from your use of the reports. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the App in the 12 months before the claim.
9. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end access if you breach these Terms or if Shopify requires it. Sections 2, 7, 8 and 10 survive termination.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [TO COMPLETE: governing law / jurisdiction]. Disputes will be resolved in [TO COMPLETE: courts or arbitration for disputes].
11. Changes
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version on this page with a new date. If you keep using the App after a change, you accept the new version.
